While trying to update my wordpress version I got the following message request:
“To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host”
This is all about permissions over the web directories. In my case it was on folder ‘/var/www/html’, it was belonging to root instead of the user that runs apache which is actually apache user. So I just ran a chown command like this:
chown -R apache:apache /var/www/html
After that I tried again the update and it did not requested me again any credentials cause it was now able to read/write the directories. You will find on the web that the folder with the issue is ../wordpress/wp-content and yes, it might be, but in my case all folders under ../html were belonging to apache except for ../html, so take a look at the parent directories, they might be the issue like in my case.
